We are on a throwback roll today... Megan & Jim also got married two years ago. They took a chance on a new venue called Hayloft on the Arch in Vernon Center NY. The barn wasn't done being built but the owner of the venue had a dream to make it into the perfect wedding venue. And let me tell you... On their wedding day it was absolutely gorgeous! They thought of everything from the unique lighting along the build in bar, to the vintage furniture, to the new floors and beautiful ceilings. It is probably one of my favorite barn venues I have ever photographed.
Now let's get to Megan & Jim. I loved working with them for their wedding because they (and their wedding party) were up for absolutely anything and ready to have fun. They had a wild party ! They will be celebrating their anniversary in just a few short weeks!

We both grew up in Central NY and have been friends since the 7th grade. We even went to our senior prom together. After college Jimbecame employed with the Federal Government which caused him to move from NY and live in a variety of states and travel to several other countries over the next several years.
During this period of time we remained friends and would call to check-in from time to time and on the rare occasion he’d make a quick visit back to NY we’d always find the time to meet even for just a few hours to grab a drink and catch-up. Having such a great friendship, complementing personalities and senses of humor, we’d always joke that’d we’d be a perfect pair if the timing and distance had ever worked out.
Fast forward a few years, Jim now lives in Houlton, Maine. One day in early January he called to let me know he’d be back visiting in NY in a few weeks and wanted to know if I wanted to test our luck and try going on a date. So naturally I agreed and on January 27th, 2012 we went on our first date to Delmonico’s Italian Steakhouse in Syracuse, NY.
Our first 6 months of dating we did the long distance thing, as Jim was about as far north in Maine as it gets (an 11 hour drive!) and would drive back to NY to see me and his family, on average of 1 weekend a month. I only made the trip to Maine to see him once. (Far too desolate and cold for me!) In July of that year, he received a new position in Washington, DC and moved yet again. Still a bit of a drive but not nearly as bad as northern Maine.
I’d always been a fan of the Northern Virginia/DC/Maryland area, (Lots to do and the winters aren’t nearly as cold as NY) so by luck that exactly a year from our first date I finished loading up the car to move to Virginia with Jim. I guess living together and seeing each other more than a weekend a month wasn’t too terrible because on March 10, 2013 he proposed! I was so surprised and of course I accepted!
For the next year and a half it would be a whirlwind of chaos consisting of wedding planning, a new job, lots and lots of travel and becoming first time homeowners. A crazy year but it was all worth it as one by one the to-do list got smaller and smaller until the big day arrived.
On Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Hayloft on the Arch, a beautiful modern yet still rustic barn venue in Vernon Center, NY, with all our family and friends, we said I do!
Who would’ve thought on the first day of junior high school that 15 years later we’d be husband and wife!
